The Rock Church, Candler, North Carolina (NC), USA

The Rock Church, Candler – Origin:
It was 1989. Pastors Kirk and Suzette made the move to Asheville with the dream to start a church in their hearts.

They had $500 – just enough to rent a space, purchase a small sound system, and put an ad in the paper. It all began in a Days Inn with 27 people in the first service.

In 1990, with sixty people, they made the move to an office park on Tunnel Road. They stayed there for six months and through one expansion. In this time, they began overflowing with 180 people.

They moved to South Asheville in 1991. Turtle Creek Shopping Center was thier home for seven years and through six expansions. When The Rock Church, Candler reached 400 people, they knew it was time to buy land and build a house of their own!

God led them to a piece of land on Monte Vista Road, just outside of West Asheville. They held their first service in this location in the fall of 1997!

Attendance doubled almost immediately, and it was only a year and a half later that they needed to expand by building the Annex – housing Kids, Student, Celebrate Recovery, and Rock Group ministries.

Through ups and downs, moves and expansions – The Rock Church, Candler has continued to grow and minister to people for over 25 years!

The Rock Church, Candler – Vision:
To love God, lift people, and change the world
